Zip Files You will need a program that can help you deal with .zip files that are prevalent on the Internet. Zip files are files that have been compressed for ease of storing and transferring files between and on computers. When you receive a compressed or "zipped" file, you will need to be able to ‘unzip’ them.
Virus Scanners A virus scanner is very important if you tend to receive files from friends or colleagues, or download files from the Internet. It will help prevent the risk of downloading anything from that Internet, which could potentially damage your system. There are several virus protection programs available to download free.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) FTP is the best way to send and receive files from the Internet. Many web sites that offer files do so through an FTP site. There are a few good FTP clients available for you to download and use on the web. We have included two of the best known below.
Graphic Programs You will always have need for a good picture file editor, something that can handle jpg, bitmap as well as gif images. There are numerous programs out there, ranging from free basic image editors to high priced image rendering software. We suggest starting with the one below. It is available as shareware, and can be downloaded from www.download.com.
Newsgroup Readers Newsgroups are a system of many groups that people from all over the world can post messages and reply to others' messages. There are many different newsgroup readers. Remember posting to Newsgroups with a valid email name leaves you open to receive automated junk mail. A trick to trip those junk mail robots up is to add a space in your email address before the "at" (@) sign. Example: user_@domane.com

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is useful for providing users the ability to download files directly from your web site. FTP is useful when your site provides files to other users. FTP is faster than accessing files from a web site. It provides a direct connection between your site and the users computer allowing them to transfer your files.

Selfpromotion.com is by far the best advertising site you can find. The more sites/search engines you register with the less information you have to enter. This site keeps a database of the information you entered and automates filling in forms to register with the various sites. The resources are amazing, not just search engines, there is registries, awards request, press releases, etc. The site keeps track of what sites you’ve done and the status, not to mention priceless first hand advice on each site. You can tell the WEB designer of "Self promotion" is honest. He only requests $10 to keep your information longer than two (2) weeks. If you only want to use it once, it’s free. However, we’re sure once you see how this complete promotional management site is set up, you’ll want to use it all the time.
"Submit It" is another way to promote your site. They automate submission of your Web address to up to 220 Internet Search Engines and Directories. Search engines give a user searching for information a link to your web site. By providing a category and keywords about your site a search engine can link a searcher to your site
